Canteens -
These canteens are functional meaning that they hold water and are not sanded to a fine finish as
are the other containers on this site.The canteen is water tight due to
the close fit of the wood and it's swelling from the water(no sealer is used).The raised spout
is formed from
the stave as was done prior to the civil war(British pattern).The wooden hoops make it
appropiate for use from the Revolutionary War up until the early Civil War.Many of these canteens were imported from England
by the Confederate Army until the Gardner pattern was in production.
